The Facsimile of the Codices Lectures | Dr. Ed Gallagher
May 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

On Thursday, May 4, at 6:00 p.m., the Overton Memorial Library will host a lecture about the Facsimile of the Codices that the library owns dating back to the 4th, 5th, and 6th centuries. Dr. Ed Gallagher will facilitate the discussion.
The codex (plural codices /ˈkoʊdɪsiːz/) was the historical ancestor of the modern book. Instead of being composed of sheets of paper, it used sheets of vellum, papyrus, or other materials. The term codex is often used for ancient manuscript books, with handwritten contents. A codex, much like the modern book, is bound by stacking the pages and securing one set of edges by a variety of methods over the centuries, yet in a form analogous to modern bookbinding.
The Overton Memorial Library proudly houses 7 codices, including the Leningrad Codex, Codex Sinaiticus, Codex Vaticanus, Aleppo Codex, Codex Alexandrinus, Codex Argenteus, and The Lindisfarne Gospels.
This event is offered at no charge, and all members of the community are invited to attend.
