Heritage Christian University strives to be an institution of high integrity and is committed to ensuring that recruitment and enrollment activities conducted at the University promote such an environment. The purpose of this practice is to ensure compliance with federal law and regulations in order to prevent and eliminate misleading, fraudulent, and aggressive recruitment of students, including veterans and Military Service members to the University. The Office of Financial Aid and all departments, employees, and agents of Heritage Christian University at Heritage Christian University must comply with this policy.
Responsibilities:
To eliminate misleading, fraudulent, or aggressive marketing tactics, Heritage Christian University will:
- accurately represent and promote Heritage Christian University by providing timely and precise information about our curricular offerings.
- provide accurate and timely admission and financial aid information to students and parents, empowering all participants in the process to act responsibly.
- be ethical and respectful in our counseling, recruiting and enrollment practices.
- refrain from publicly disseminating biased, unflattering, and/or potentially inaccurate information about other institutions of higher education, their admission criteria, and/or curricular offerings.
- refrain from high-pressure recruitment tactics. Such tactics include making multiple (more than 3) unsolicited phone calls to military service members for the purpose of securing their enrollment.
- refrain from providing any commission, bonus, or other incentive payment based directly or indirectly on securing enrollments or federal financial aid (including Tuition Assistance funds) to any persons or entities engaged in any student recruiting, admission activities, or making decisions regarding the award of student financial assistance.
HCU has entered into an Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement with the Department of Defense (DOD), whereby the University provides educational services to military service members participating in off-duty, postsecondary education programs. As articulated in the agreement, it is of utmost importance that military service members, first, speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their Military Service prior to enrolling in an institution. HCU employees are committed to providing assistance in an objective, fair, clear, and understandable manner, and are bound by professional standards and applicable University policies that prohibit conflicts of interest.
Responsibilities:
In addition to all the above, in order to eliminate misleading, fraudulent, or aggressive marketing tactics aimed at military service members:
- Gifts or other such inducements provided for the purpose of securing enrollments of military service members or obtaining access to tuition assistance funds will NOT be acceptable. This includes any gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, transportation, lodging, meals, or other item having a monetary value of more than a de minimus amount.
- Other than normal salaries paid to employees, or normal fees paid to contractors made in conformity with all applicable laws, payments to any individual or entity will NOT be acceptable for the purpose of securing enrollments of military service members or obtaining access to tuition assistance funds.
- University departments will refrain from high-pressure recruitment tactics. Such tactics include making multiple (more than 3) unsolicited phone calls to military service members for the purpose of securing their enrollment.
- The University will refrain from providing any commission, bonus, or other incentive payment based directly or indirectly on securing enrollments to any persons or entities engaged in any student recruiting, admission activities.
- Excess Federal financial aid and/or tuition assistance funds cannot be offered to entice a military serviceman to enroll.
- All service members are directed to speak with their Education Service Officer prior to enrolling the student in HCU.
