Youth & Family Minister Job Duties

The following is developed and shared in an effort to provide a foundation and a blueprint for the working relationship between our youth minister and our congregation.

It is our understanding that all in the family of God are called to be ministers.

As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by men but chosen by God

and precious to him – you also like living stones, are being built into a

spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices

acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.   1 Peter 2:4-5

We pay certain individuals in our congregation in order that they may dedicate their full efforts to helping to equip the body of Christ here in Collinsville.

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some

to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s

people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until

we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become

mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  Ephesians 4:11-13

Ultimate and final authority:  The Word of God and our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Congregational authority: The eldership, currently David Davenport, Harold Achimon and
Jim Barnes. All staff meet with these men at least once a month and provide written reports as to
the status of their ministry efforts.

Day to day authority: The youth minister reports to and aids the senior minister, currently
Scott Sides, in their combined efforts to see that the ongoing needs of the congregation are met.

Salary Expectations

·         Compensation is determined by considerations in education, experience and references.  The Youth & Family Minister may also earn additional compensation in the form of attendance bonuses if the average yearly attendance grows by at least 25%.

·         Workweek time expectations: This position assumes an average work week of 40 hours
with the understanding that ministry is not a 9 to 5 desk job. The youth minister is charged with knowing what he needs to get his job done weekly and has the freedom to manage his own work week towards that end.

·         Annual Salary: $35,000 – $45,000 according to experience and education, plus house and utilities.  A check will be issued weekly by the treasurer.

·         10% bonus if the average yearly attendance in the youth group grows by 25%.

·         Paid vacation: Two weeks for the first three years.  Three weeks after that.

Youth & Family Minister Job Related Requirements

Our youth minister needs to obtain the following:

·         Education: The Youth & Family Minister needs to continually equip himself beyond his present educational status.

·         Certifications & Licenses:  The Youth & Family Minister is required to obtain first aid and CPR certifications.  He will also be required to obtain a CDL license to drive the church bus.

Youth & Family Minister Skills Required

Our Youth & Family Minister needs the following skills to be successful:

·         Communication skills

·         Leadership skills

·         Problem-solving skills

·         Conflict resolution skills

PLEASE NOTE: In early September we realized the email address we provided in our preacher search advertisements was not working properly. If you have previously responded to one of our ads and not received a reply, please email the address provided in this new advertisement.

The Licking Church of Christ, Licking, MO is seeking a preacher who focuses on the Biblical doctrines and the practices of the early church. Health problems are forcing our much-loved current preacher to step down.

We are looking for a preacher who GENTLY AND TACTFULLY TEACHES THE FULL TRUTH.

Many of our members are age 50 and older. However, we have a solid group of younger folks who recognize the authority of the Scriptures. Our church building is located on the main street of our small town, and our auditorium will seat about 200. We have several classrooms and a fellowship hall with kitchen. We offer a day school each year. Our services are like those found in most Churches of Christ in the 1950s.

The cost of living is low in our rural area which helps offset our beginning salary of $36,000. (PLEASE NOTE: We would love to have a full time preacher; however, we may have to compromise due to our salary.) Our area offers lots of recreation in God’s creation—small rivers, creeks, trout streams, national forests. About 35 miles to the north is a larger town with a major university and additional recreational activities.

Training, preaching experience, ability, and personality will all be strongly considered.

If you believe we are a good fit, please respond to our posting. Upon receipt of your response, we will send you a standard set of questions.

Hello, my name is Marcus McDowell, I am a member of the body of Christ at Briar Church of Christ in Azle TX where I minister and take part in the leadership, with youth activities as well as teach junior high/high school bible classes.

Let me take just a moment to share with you a little about myself and my journey. I am 42 years old and married to my loving helpmate Rhonda McDowell of six years. We have seven beautiful, amazing children.  Makela 21, Ryan 20, Kiara 18, Sean 19, Evan 15, Cameron 14, and Josie 9. I obeyed the gospel and was baptized and added to the body of Christ at 1st & Georgia Church of Christ and labored in Chickasha Oklahoma. Arlouis & Vickie McDowell are my parents, and they serve and lead at Magnolia Church of Christ in Duncan, Oklahoma where my father has preached and labored for 23 years. For the past 4 years, I have diligently studied God’s divine word and graduated through the Online Academy of Biblical Studies (OABS) directed by Chuck Northrop under the oversight of the eldership at Chipman Road Church of Christ.

My earnest and humble desire is to pursue kingdom growth as I strive for moral excellence in my study of the Bible. That I may have a surer understanding of biblical principles which is the standard of foundation and the truth that guides and directs my path Jer. 10:23. My motivation is one that is inspired directly from the mouth of God through his divine gospel truth. Jesus says Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo I am with you always even until the end of the World (Matthew 28:19-20). There are so many gospel preachers who have grown faint or become unfaithful in their service to the kingdom. I am so blessed and humbled to have the opportunity and privilege to do as God would have me to do as a steward of His divine word to “preach the word” 1 Tim. 4:2.

My wife and I are prayerful that God’s will is being done as we both understand God is in control and it is a duty and a blessing that is set before us as stewards of His word to go about the work of a gospel preacher.

In His Service,

Marcus McDowell
