The Heritage Christian University campus is located on 67 acres in Florence, Alabama. Florence is one of four cities in the Shoals area, which boasts a total population of about 137,000. Located one hour west of Huntsville, Alabama, the Shoals is centrally located between Nashville, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Alabama.
Situated on the banks of the Tennessee River, the Shoals community hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year. Favorite events include: the W.C. Handy Music Festival, held annually in honor of the Florence native musician; the NCAA Division II Championship Football Game; the Helen Keller Festival; and the Alabama Renaissance Faire, held each October. Others include the Festival of the Singing River, Arts Alive, Heritage Days, the Freedom of America Celebration, the Trail of Tears Celebration, and many more.
The Shoals has an abundance of public parks, camping areas and walking trails. Public and private golf courses make for ideal relaxation time, as do a variety of recreational activities on the river. For indoor recreation, you may choose to enjoy an evening at one of the Shoals’ many restaurants, exhibits and classes at the Kennedy-Douglass and Tennessee Valley Art Centers, various theater group performances, or a large selection of other activities.
The Shoals is known for its commitment to education. You may choose to enroll children at one of the area’s fine public schools, or at one of the largest private Christian schools in the nation. You will also find a large number of congregations with a desire to help you as you learn to minister more effectively.
