Christian Service Campaigns
Every undergraduate student at Heritage Christian University is required to participate in HCU-sponsored evangelistic campaigns. Congregations contact the university and request a campaign (please use this form). The Christian Service Subcommittee assigns students and faculty/staff members to individual campaigns. Campaigns are held each Fall (October) and Spring (March) semester. In addition, special campaigns may be arranged in the summer. To graduate with a bachelor's degree, a student must have completed eight (8) HCU campaigns (exceptions to this requirement are made for transfer students). Compulsory campaign attendance ensures practical experience in personal evangelism and ministry in general.Below is a description of a traditional HCU-sponsored campaign. However, the HCU Christian Service Department attempts to be as flexible as possible with the understanding that this is the host congregation's campaign and local needs may require different formats and approaches. Some campaigns have included work at local colleges and universities, hospital/nursing facilities, etc., as well as special seminars, youth activities, and service through benevolent programs.
Traditional Campaign Format:
A faculty/staff member or Senior-level student leads and organizes the campaign group. Campaigners leave HCU on Saturday and drive to the location of the campaign. The students travel together to the location of the hosting congregation in vans, arriving Saturday evening. The students are housed with members of the hosting congregation. On Sunday, the congregation, with the aid of the students, begins a weeklong evangelistic meeting preached by the campaign leader. Students knock doors each morning and afternoon to set up and conduct Bible studies. The congregation provides meals, usually at the building. The campaign concludes on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday evening, and the group returns to HCU the next day.
