HCU News for January 17, 2012

The Board of Directors and the Administrative Council of Heritage Christian University are pleased to announce that Phillip Goad has been appointed Vice President of University Advancement, effective immediately. Congratulations to Phillip for the fine work he is doing.

The HCU Board of Directors met over the weekend in Huntsville. We appreciate our Board for the countless blessings it brings to our work.

Last weekend Matt and Hannah Burleson represented HCU in an excellent way at Evangelism University in Savannah, TN.  We’re blessed with many talented and caring students. Well done, Matt and Hannah!

C. Wayne Kilpatrick left yesterday for a week of teaching in the Dominican Republic. Pray that his efforts will be greatly encouraging to brethren there.

Please pray for Robert and Angela Monroe as they await the latest addition to their fine family.

Keep in your prayers:  David Arny, David Blackwell, Austin and Betty Davenport, Jerry Davidson, Sara Goldman, Gail Stephenson, and Mechelle Thompson. We are thrilled with the great news that Mechelle received last week.  We know that Betty Davenport especially needs to be remembered to God.  Student Clara Credit-Kemp has asked that we remember her family in our prayers, especially Mr. Kemp (her father-in-law), John Green Sr., Eddie Sorrell, Sister Williams and Sister Lyers.  Clara has recently suffered the loss of an infant grandson, an aunt, and the husband of her niece.  Bless her heart!

Thanks so much to Rusty and Dana Pettus for helping sponsor the Third Annual Charles R. Coil Lecture. Rusty is an alumnus who blesses HCU in so many ways.  We appreciate their partnership in this scholarly opportunity for HCU and its community.

Dr. Joel Stephen Williams is making his personal library available for in-house use to patrons of the Overton Memorial Library.  As soon as additional shelving arrives and cataloging can be completed, some 4,000 books soon will be housed in the first room off the McMeans Reading Area.  We appreciate this notable kindness.  The textbook book store has moved to the office behind the circulation desk. The Friends of OML Bookstore has moved to the last room off the McMeans Reading Area.  We appreciate Bobby and Peggy for painting yesterday to allow these moves with no disruption of library services.  As you would know, Jamie accomplished most of the labor in moving hundreds of books over the weekend.

Thought for the week: Read Acts 12:20-24.  It’s amazing how the devil uses pride (ego) to bait us.  We imagine Herod glowing as he hears the chant, “The voice of a god and not a man.”  We know that he was judged for failing to “give glory to God.”  We’re not God, and we never will be.  We’re blessed and delighted to be servants of God.  We know that all glory belongs to God.  We delight in recognizing God as the light of our lives.  What an honor even to be mentioned in the same breath as the most high God!
