HCU News for December 27, 2011

Hope you had an excellent Christmas. Hope the new year will be blessed in more ways than we can imagine.

Thanks much to Pat and Janet Moon, Peggy Brewer, and all who helped with the faculty/staff Christmas Luncheon.  It was so good to share this sweet and happy time!

HCU will be closed on Monday January 2, 2012. Spring classes begin on Tuesday January 3, 2012.

What happens between semesters at HCU?  More than we can explain, but it encourages us to think of the following:

  • Syllabi being improved for next semester.
  • Lesson plans being made.
  • New books and articles being reviewed.
  • Textbooks being received and new books being added to OML.
  • Ongoing assessment work.
  • Year end fundraising to the max.
  • Visits with churches, potential students, and alumni.
  • Christian service in every form.
  • Plans being made to serve with more passion and greater effectiveness.
  • Extra time with family and friends.
  • Moves to new offices as new responsibilities are shouldered (Travis and Michael).

Please continue to remember in your daily prayers:

  • Dave Arny, David Blackwell, Austin and Betty Davenport, Jerry Davidson, Alana Marks, Rosemary Snodgrass, Gail Stevenson, and Mechelle Thompson.
  • Please pray for new students who are considering HCU.
  • Pray for our friend Don Williams who got a new knee on December 20th.
  • Please pray for the Greg Swindle family as they work to transition to Zambia.
  • Please pray for Cory and Tanya Collins as they transition to Keller, Texas.
  • Several area congregations are searching for new preachers. Pray that God will guide the process and produce huge blessings.

Looking forward to 2012:

  • Master of Divinity Retreat on January 5-6
  • Third Annual Charles Coil Lecture on February 24

Thought for the week:  We love Paul’s attitude in Philippians 1:12-18, particularly verse 12, “But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel.”  What happens to us isn’t final until God makes it final.  All of us have suffered apparent defeats that God turned into major victories.  All of have suffered defeats that God used to help us grow in trust and maturity.  God remains ever “able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (Ephesians 3:20).  Life isn’t a bed of roses, but God can grow a rose anywhere He chooses.
