What are Grants?
Grants are forms of financial aid you do not repay! Generally, you must be an undergraduate student, and the amount you receive depends on your need, cost of attendance, and your enrollment status.

Grants

Federal Pell Grant - The Pell Grant is named after U.S. Senator Claiborne Pell, Democrat of Rhode Island, and was originally known as the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant. It is considered the foundation of a student's financial aid package to which aid from other federal and non-federal sources might be added. It is available exclusively to undergraduates and it is determined by your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time. Unlike a student loan, the Pell Grant does not have to be repaid, in most cases. In addition:

•Students are automatically considered for Pell Grant when they file the FAFSA.
•Students who receive an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 5273 or less on the Student Aid Report (SAR) are eligible for some Pell award.
•The maximum Pell Grant award for the 2012-13 award year (July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013) is $5,550.
•The amount you are awarded will depend on your financial need, your costs to attend school, your status as a full-time or part-time student, and your plans to attend school for a full academic year or less.
•If you received a Pell Grant for the first time on or after July 1, 2008, you can only receive the Pell Grant for up to 18 semesters or the equivalent.
•The maximum award amount is given for any Pell Grant eligible student whose parent or guardian died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after Sept.11, 2001. You must be under 24 years old or enrolled at least part-time in college at the time of your parent's or guardian's death.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant – The FSEOG is available exclusively to undergraduates, and like the Pell Grant, it is determined by your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, the FSEOG:

•Requires exceptional financial need
•Priority is given to Federal Pell Grant recipients.
•Funds depend on availability.

Federal Work Study Grant - The Federal Work Study Grant is a government-funded monetary award provided to:

•Students with financial need to pursue post secondary education.
•Students who are awarded the Federal Work Study Grant are provided with a specific allotment that is paid to them in exchange for part time work.
•This grant is awarded to students who apply via the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and changes from year to year and school to school.
•Students considering the Federal Work Study Grant should apply as early as possible in order to be successful in obtaining the grant.
•Funds depend on availability.
