Dennis Jones

Dennis JonesDennis Jones is a native of Florence, Alabama. He and his wife, Fredda, have three children: Rodney, Rita, and Jana. They are also the proud grandparents of five grandsons and three granddaughters.

Dennis began his career as an ironworker apprentice with Tennessee Valley Authority. He attended night classes for five years and upon completion of his training was awarded a journeyman degree. In 1972 he enrolled in Heritage Christian University earning a B.A. in 1977. In 1984, he began a Masters program at Murray State University and received his degree in 1994. His professional training includes Dale Carnegie course, Ron Willingham Leadership course, Performax Certification course, and seminars with the National Speakers Association and Clemson University. He is also a graduate of Leadership Shoals, a Florence Chamber of Commerce leadership-training program. In 1982 the Florence Jaycees selected Dennis as Outstanding Young Religious Leader. His military training was in the Alabama National Guard where he served for nine years and received special training in the U.S. Army Chaplain School in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey. In 1998 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Freed-Hardeman University.

His work as a minister started with the Florence Boulevard church of Christ, and progressed as he worked with a variety of churches in the area. In 1978, he began conducting seminars full-time and continued until 1980. He has conducted more than 300 seminars and campaigns.

In 1981, he accepted an opportunity to serve Heritage Christian University in the capacity of Development Officer. He became the Director of Development in 1984 and Vice President in 1986. In September 1989, he was appointed Heritage Christian’s second president, taking office January 1, 1990.

Jones enjoys teaching classes at Heritage Christian University and conducting leadership seminars. He also enjoys serving as an Interm Minister and over the past several years he has served 19 congregations in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

He especially enjoys speaking on the subjects of evangelism, family, leadership, giving, and Christian attitudes. He presently has available a book entitled How To Make Your Life Count.
